A Micro-Adjustment

According to science, 55% of what we "say" is done nonverbally. This not only includes our body language, but our physical appearance as well as how we move. In most cases, our body language is unconscious.

When it comes to headshots, we want to be intentional about everything. When I'm working with clients I start with the position of their feet and move right up to the tops of their heads to make sure every position is "just so".

There is one simple head posture that research has proven to convey leadership to the viewer. Can you guess what it is?

We've been told since we were young to "carry our head high" and although there is truth to that portraying confidence, the slight tip downwards of the chin conveys leadership, in particular when paired with strong eye contact.

As you can see from this photo of Antonio, his posture is strong, his head is held high, and he has that leadership nod.

Keep this in mind at your next headshot session, or in person meeting.

After all, it's the little things that have the biggest impact.
